About Us :: History

Upon graduation from high school, Jonathan Barnett's goal was to play basketball at ORU and earn a degree that would equip him for ministry. Jonathan graduated in the summer of 2002 with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Evangelism.  During his time at ORU, Jonathan served as the team chaplain.  He was also very heavily involved with a Ministry called News Release Basketball that ministered the gospel in Europe through sport. Jonathan did not know it yet, but these circumstances were preparation for what the Lord was going to call him to do.

It was during an alone time with God that the Lord birthed the vision of Crossover Ministries into Jonathan’s heart as he read the verse John 5:24.

"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."  -  John 5:24 (NIV).

After reading this verse Jonathan saw the worldwide basketball term "crossover" as an open door to share the saving message of Jesus Christ with the lost. Everyone in the world that follows the sport of basketball knows what a basketball crossover is. This move is a great move, at the same time one must understand that it is not a move that will last forever. It is temporary!

However Jesus died and rose again in place of our sins in order that we may receive the “Eternal Crossover.”  This is a move that will last forever. The Bible says in John 5:24 that when we believe in Jesus we will not be condemned for we have crossed over from death to life. Jesus Christ is the bridge that we must cross over to receive eternal life.
